Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information

Meridian Counseling respects your privacy and gives you control over your personal information. This page explains your rights under U.S. state privacy laws and how to submit a request to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information, limit the use of your sensitive personal information, or exercise other privacy rights.

About your therapy records. Information you share with us as a patient or prospective patient — including medical, mental health, and treatment records — is Protected Health Information (PHI) governed by HIPAA and applicable state health privacy laws. PHI is excluded from most state consumer privacy laws and is protected under separate, stronger rules. The rights described below apply to non-PHI personal information we may collect, such as data gathered through our website, contact forms, marketing communications, and analytics tools.

Your privacy rights

Depending on the state where you live, you may have the following rights:

  • Right to opt out of sale or sharing — Direct us not to "sell" or "share" your personal information, including for cross-context behavioral advertising.
  • Right to limit the use of sensitive personal information — Restrict how we use sensitive categories such as precise geolocation or health-related data (California).
  • Right to know / access — Request the specific personal information we have collected about you and how we use it.
  • Right to delete — Request that we delete personal information we have collected from you, subject to legal exceptions.
  • Right to correct — Request that we correct inaccurate personal information we maintain about you.
  • Right to data portability — Receive a copy of your personal information in a portable, readable format.
  • Right to opt out of targeted advertising — Opt out of advertising based on your activity across non-affiliated websites or apps.
  • Right to opt out of profiling for automated decisions that produce significant effects.
  • Right to non-discrimination — We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.
  • Right to appeal — If we deny your request, you may appeal the decision (available in most states other than California).

These rights apply to residents of California (CCPA/CPRA), Virginia (VCDPA), Colorado (CPA), Connecticut (CTDPA), Utah (UCPA), Texas (TDPSA), Oregon (OCPA), Montana (MCDPA), Delaware (DPDPA), Iowa (ICDPA), New Hampshire (NHPA), New Jersey (NJDPA), Tennessee (TIPA), Minnesota (MCDPA), Maryland (MODPA), Indiana (ICDPA), Kentucky (KCDPA), Rhode Island (RIDTPPA), and other states with applicable consumer privacy laws.

How to submit a request

Send your request by email to: [email protected]

Please include the following so we can locate your information and respond quickly:

  1. Your full name
  2. The email address and/or phone number associated with your interactions with us
  3. The state where you reside
  4. The specific right(s) you wish to exercise (for example: opt out of sale/sharing, limit sensitive PI, know, delete, correct, opt out of targeted advertising)
  5. Any details that will help us identify your information in our records

Authorized agents

You may designate an authorized agent to submit a request on your behalf. We will require proof of authorization (such as a signed permission from you or a valid power of attorney) and we may also need to verify your identity directly.

How we verify your request

To protect your information, we take reasonable steps to verify your identity before fulfilling a request. We may ask you to confirm specific pieces of information we already have on file. You do not need to create an account to submit a request.

Response time

We will acknowledge your request within 10 business days and respond substantively within 45 days. If we need additional time (up to a further 45 days), we will tell you and explain why.

Right to appeal

If we deny your request and you live in a state that grants an appeal right, you may appeal by replying to our decision or writing to [email protected] with "Appeal" in the subject line. We will respond to your appeal within 60 days.

Browser-based opt-out signals

We honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals where required by law. If your browser sends a GPC signal, we will treat it as a valid opt-out of sale and sharing for that browser and device.
